About the Event

This year's "January Event" was actually in February! February 2nd, to be exact. Fortunately, the Candlemas event in Kentucky which is a large draw moved dates as well so we did not conflict. The Crusade theme was all set to go when word arrived that Their Majesties wanted to do a Tournament of Chivalry and after taking stock of our resources, the Cleftlands accepted the challenge!

The site was again the Berea Fairgrounds which proved ample for all the day's activities. Co-Autocrats Bernard Strumere and Zsof outdid themselves planning a top-notch event. The kitchen was headed by novice feast steward Edward Fitzranulf who, with the help of his lovely assistant Baroness Madelaine, gritted his teeth and bit into the problem of serving an excellent feast at a site with no kitchen. (The feast menu and recipes)

Jared of Coventry was the Gatekeeper, assisted by the lovely Lassarina. The entry fee was a mere $6 (pre-registered). Lady Cherise organized the merchants, which were decreased in number to accommodate moving the rapier and youth lists from the fighting building.

Their Majesties Palymar and Aislinn, Their Highnesses Lutr and Tessa and Their Majesties Aethelmearc Duncan and Ilish were in attendance. Stephan Von Lubeck was Royalty Liaison with the help of Mistress Seadna and Cienwen. Their Highnesses Aethelmearc had planned to attend but were prevented by bad weather in their home Kingdom.

Artair was the site steward for the event and won the morning's Unbelted Tournament. The prize for which was the honor to hold the field with the Knights.

The Shire of Eastwatch was to be raised to full status at court, but through a clerical error the piece of business was missed. Fortunately Their Majesties were able to re-open court at feast and officially recognize the Shire.

Their Majesties Athelmearc posted the following Missive on Their Kingdom website prior to the event:

Unto the Kingdom of AEthelmearc do We Duncan King and Ilish Queen send greetings!
We will be traveling to the Kingdom of the Midrealm and have been invited to bring Our Chivalry, unbelted fighters, Fencers and populace to enjoy a day of tournaments. Please join us in the Barony of the Cleftlands in the Kingdom of the Midrealm on February 2, 2008. We ask you to stand with your King in tournament, ready your foils in the name of AEthelmearc, and for the populace to wear the Escarbuncle with pride. Come let us enjoy the hospitality of the Kingdom of the Midrealm. You may find a link to the event with directions and schedule from the Event Calendar.
