About the Event

A fine event held at the Berea Methodist Church on a bright November day in 1996. A highlight of the evening was a masked ball with the theme of the seven knightly virtues and the seven deadly sins. All the guests were given two beans to give one each to the best virtue and the best sin. Sins outnumbered virtues considerably and the competition was fierce! Branwyn Fitz Payne de Grey dressed as 'Gluttony' won for the sins.

Personal Memories

What I remember most is being asked to paint a silver tongue for Ephraim ben Shlomo at the mask making workshop, lead by Sarra Bossard. He wanted to exalt his gift of glib tongue as a silver-tongued-devil for the evening's costume competition. -Milesent Vibert

This may come as a surprise given my generally reticent nature, but I was the winner of the vices/virtues competition! The choice of vice, gluttony, was an obvious one for me. For my costume, I made earrings from plastic loaves of bread and a necklace of dried pasta and plastic olives. The crowning touch was the rubber chicken (stuffed with fake fruit) perched on my head. I decapitated the chicken and covered the feet with little white paper frills. I think I also sewed some plastic fruits and nuts on my dress. In keeping with my persona, I ate constantly during the event and was beginning to feel sick by the end of the day. It was a surprise when I won the competition by popular acclaim. Some of the other entries were very funny. I can't remember if there was a prize besides the honor of being chosen as the silliest person at the event. -Branwyn FitzPayne
