The fourth Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, Calum and Constanza, announced in September 2016 that they would not seek to poll again to continue as baronial coronets for the Cleftlands. Polling under the acting seneschal Ginevra Boscoli took place in late October and early November, with Their Majesties Edmund and Kateryn selection of successors announced at A Regular Event in Cleftlands 2018 XXIII. The baronial investiture occurred at Northern Oaken War Maneuvers 2017 XXI on June 10, 2017 by the hands of King William and Queen Isolde.

One couple bravely stepped forward for consideration for the position of Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands:

From Crispin and Gianna

Unto Their Royal Majesties Edmund and Kateryn, Their Royal Highnesses William and Isolde, Their Excellencies of the Cleftlands Baron Calum and Baroness Constanza, the Honorable Lady Ginevra Boscoli, and any other good gentles who may read these words, do Sör Crispin dela Rochefoucauld and the Honorable Lady Gianna Vettori send greetings.

In early September, Their Excellencies Calum and Constanza made known their decision to step down after five years of exemplary service. While we are saddened by their (well earned) retirement, our thoughts have turned towards the future of the Cleftlands. After careful thought and reflection, know that it is our wish to present our names for consideration as possible candidates for their successors.

The Barony of the Cleftlands is one of the shining jewels in the crown of the Middle Kingdom. Over the years, the leadership created a culture steeped in tradition and excellence. It is our wish to preserve this heritage while being mindful to the changing needs of our growing community. We seek to encourage the populace to diversify their skills, interests, and service within the society.

We have each held leadership roles within the barony over the years. Sör Crispin served as the Quartermaster and is currently the Minister of Arts and Sciences. Lady Gianna served as demonstration coordinator, and currently serves as the baronial Webminister and (excluding the duration of the polling process) Seneschal. It has been our pleasure to work closely with Their Excellencies and to learn by the wonderful examples they have set. We feel that this experience has given us a better understanding and foundation for what it means to serve and represent the barony.

Our dedication to the Cleftlands extends beyond serving in officer roles, however. Whether volunteering as event staff, stewarding, retaining, marshaling, serving feast, or simply ensuring that cars are parked we are often the proverbial boots on the ground to help wherever help is needed. We are not only regular faces at demonstrations but are also experienced in organizing them to best showcase the wide variety of interests within the Society. We are active within, and supportive of, the local arts communities (guilds) in the Cleftlands. We have been members of royal staffs, and are familiar with the work, dedication, and discretion required when serving the Crown. In addition, we understand the dignity and decorum required to speak with the voice of the Crown when necessary.

Know that we, Sör Crispin and Lady Gianna, are loyal servants to the Crown who share a deep love and respect for our barony and all it represents. We thank you for your time and for allowing us the honor of submitting our names for consideration to serve as the next Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands.

In service,

Sör Crispin dela Rochefoucauld

The Honorable Lady Gianna Vettori
